Hi! This is weird because now we don't have 2 computers to use for emailing so I get to use this I-pad from Elder Jensen. So sorry if it's not as long as usual.
This week was a great week! We had a few cool lessons that I want to tell you about. The first one was with a guy ________ (Guntur means thunder in Indoesian so that's pretty cool) we met him about a month ago on the busway and finally got to meet with him. He also brought like 5 of his friends with him. He is in his mid 20's. He is someone who is pretty strong headed. We had to be very clear with our lesson and be very respectful of his comments. He took notes while we were teaching and would throw Bible verses at us. He would try to think of questions that negated what we said. So at the end of the course we just told him that the only way he could know if this was the true church was for him to just read the Book of Mormon himself. He is the kind of person who is hard, but fun to teach, because when he said he would read it I knew he would. So we are going to meet with him on Tuesday again, so hopefully that goes well. Right while I have been typing this, the postman guy came and delivered my package! Perfect timing! It has exactly what I wanted and I'm very happy about that. Thanks Mom! The other person was ________. She doesn't really understand much, so we focused on Heavenly Father and how to pray to him and why we pray. She came to Stake Conference yesterday and she is very cute. It's also cool because her older brother who has been inactive for a long time really wants her to learn and now he is very active and comes to every activity. We also taught _________. She had some questions about the afterlife, so we taught her about the Plan of Salvation. She is very busy so we don't get to meet with her often, but it is cool to see how she has opened up a little bit. Hopefully she is reading from the Book of Mormon and also she comes to church on Sunday. Stake Conference was really good! I got to say hi to all the members from Bogor and it was just a blast. We also got matching dresses and ties as a district so that was really fun. I will have Sister Xiao send some pictures to you from her camera. We also found out that Sister Xiao is moving! We don't know where yet, because since all the missionaries are coming to Jakarta for the Conference with President Ulisses Soares, they are being told to bring their luggage to Jakarta, and then they will be told during the meeting where they are being transferred. Sister Xiao is way sad that she has to leave and I'm sad she's not going to be my companion anymore too. So we'll see this week who my new companion is! Well this I-pad is hard so I think that's all for the week that I need to say. Love you! Talk to you next week! Love, Sister Davis Yay we just finished skyping! I now only have 20 minutes to email so I'll try to make this fast :)
I'll just share a few miracles we had. On Wednesday we were sitting on a bench on the busway and Sister Xiao was contacting a lady, and then this guy comes up to us and asks us if we are Mormon. He said he just barely finished a conversation with one of his friends about finding truth and where he could find it. He said he had learned about all these different religions and his friend asked if he had learned with Mormons and he said no but that he wanted to. So then right after that he ran into us. And we always have our Books of Mormon out so he recognized us. We talked to him for a bit and then he said he had time right then to meet with us. We had an appointment and he was a man, so we called the Elders and helped him find Senopati and he met right then. He also came to church this Sunday :) It's so true that the Lord puts people in our path, but really that the Lord puts us in their path! Hopefully he has a lot of progress in the next few weeks. Saturday we did a service project at an inactive members house. His name is Brother _________. His house is pretty large and has a flooding problem, so they want to try to do some renovations to fix the house and the problems. But it is only him and his older sister there who are in their middle sixties so it is hard for them to do very much with the home. They had massive book shelves and wardrobes down in this area that they couldn't move, so the Elders, the Jensens (mission couple) and some members came and we helped clean out some of their house. We are no way near done but at least the men got the furniture out :) The Elders were late at the beginning, so we were able to teach Brother ________ older sister, _________. She doesn't really have a religion, so we taught her a little bit. When we invited her to church, she said that the door was broken because the wood had warped so they couldn't close it so there always had to be someone at home. Well, Elder Jensen heard that and him and Sister Jensen own a construction house building company, so miraculously there was a planer so he fixed and sanded down the door so it could be locked. So they said since they fixed it that means she has to come to church :) AND SHE DID! She was shy but she is fun if she knows people as well. We really hope the service we gave them and having us go visit her and uplift her will open her up to the gospel :) Our other Investigator at church was ________. She is a friend of a member who is from Indonesia but now lives in North Dakota. The member came to visit for a while, so she invited her and some of her other relatives who aren't members to learn with us. So we taught her once and she had quite a few questions after church, Now we have an appointment with her on Thursday. :) Hopefully we will have more information about them for next week. Next week is stake conference so that will be fun to write about too. Also _______ my convert in Bogor, got her patriarchal blessing so that's really cool! Love you! Love, Sister Davis This week we had a couple fun experiences contacting. We found this place that was SUPER MACET (traffic) and so we won't go there again :) Then we went the opposite way on another afternoon which went kind of a long the coast, so I saw the ocean! YAY! There was also this area that had some places obviously for rich people. We also discovered another cool mall that is way fancy and that will be another fun P-day thing.
We got called by Elder Jensen who is the senior office couple missionaries saying that we have to move apartments! But just one floor down haha. So that's pretty much what we did all morning. We cleaned the new apartment, and then later we have to move all of our stuff into the apartment. So that is our exciting P-day activity haha. This week we also had Zone Conferences. We had interviews and a training with Sister Rowley on Wednesday and then we had Zone Conference on Saturday. It's not as weird being at Zone Conference because I see President at least once a week here at the Mission Office and the Senior Couples too. We talked about following the spirit and talking with everyone. It was a good Zone Conference, and it helped me want to be more brave when talking to people. After Zone Conference we had about 3 hours before English class to go contacting, so we decided to just ride the Busway wherever we felt needed to go. So we got off at the main busway close to where the church is and sat at the stop on a couple of benches for a while. Sister Xiao had a prompting to talk to a man who had been kind of staring at us for a few minutes. But that meant that she had to awkwardly get up from the bench we were sitting on, sit right in between 2 men, and then find an excuse to start talking with them. After a couple of minutes she stood up and sat right next to them, and then the guy immediately asked her if what she was carrying was a Kitab Mormon. He had met with the Elders before but he doesn't have a phone so he lost contact with them. It was cool that she was able to meet with him and get his address. He also had given away a few Books of Mormon to his friends, so she wrote down those names for the Elders to ask him about. Also during that, on the bench I was sitting on, where Sister Xiao was sitting a cute young girl sat by me and she had quite a few questions and we are hoping we can meet with her this coming Sunday. So we just have to follow the spirit and be willing to open our mouths and then Heavenly Father will put people in our paths. We also met with those people that we contacted in the Supermarket last week and they are now new investigators. We are slowly getting to know the ward and finding ways to meet new people. As we just work every day we will be blessed with satisfaction in our work and we will be happy doing it. That's all there is for this week, . Love you so much! Love, Sister Davis |
